BREAKING THE UNION

Mat 1:21 "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."

I’d like to draw your attention to just one word from the text: FROM!

The Greek word used here is apo (ἀπό). It is a powerful word! It means: to separate one thing from another, destroying the union or fellowship between the two, leaving a state of separation or distance.

Ephesians 5:8: For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.

Before our new birth in Christ, our fellowship was with darkness—which means we had no true fellowship with Jesus, the Light! Along with that darkness came gross spiritual blindness and a total ignorance of the life God intended for us. Because of our sin, we were separated from God. We were without hope and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:12).

How marvelous it really is! The moment a person turns to God from their sin by repentance and puts their faith in Jesus Christ, BOOM! The union and fellowship with sin is destroyed!

Whenever that old fellowship with darkness tries to creep back into your life, remind it that you no longer have any ties or union with it. Remind it that the precious blood of Christ has created a great chasm between the two of you! That old connection is forever destroyed. You are a new creation in Christ, called out of darkness into the marvelous light of Jesus! Our mission now is to proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of that dark fellowship (1 Peter 2:9).
