LIKE A CHILD AT REST

Hudson Taylor, founder of China Inland Mission, in the closing months of his life said to a friend, “I am so weak. I can’t read my Bible. I can’t even pray. I can only lie still in God’s arms like a little child and trust.

Psa 131:2 Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child [is] my soul within me.

Heb. 4:9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God [did] from His.

One of my earliest memories was standing in my crib and screaming. I was screaming because of the classical music my Mom would play in my room! The music made me feel so sad! One day it was like I just woke from sleep and there I was, but where was I? Who or what was I. How did I even get there? Then there was that beautiful smiling face. Who was she? There was that strong but gentle man. Who was he? I grew to discover, they were the ones God chose to be my parents. They cared for me before I was aware I needed care. I did nothing for myself, they did it all! I don’t remember worrying about a single thing. There was nothing to worry about. They thought of everything! They took care of everything! They provided everything! I hadn’t a care in the world! You know where I am going!

Brothers and Sisters, it is exactly the same for us in Christ. We humans are so works minded that we think we must work our way into God’s favor and blessing! No! We must learn from a little child who is entirely dependent on it’s parents for everything! For us, the only work we do is to believe, to trust and to rest in the finished work of Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection! This is the work we do! (see John 6:29) There is nothing we can do to add one thing to what He’s done! Nothing you will ever need has not been thought of and provided for! Believe Him, trust Him, rest in Him, walk with Him, seek Him, LOVE HIM! Oh, how He loves you and me!

Every blessing!
